WHO WE ARE

The Saskatchewan Indigenous Investment Finance Corporation (SIIFC) was established to provide access to capital for Indigenous communities and entities participating in Saskatchewan’s natural resource and value-added agriculture sectors.

Our logo is the creation of a Saskatchewan based Indigenous designer and shows a black bear created by a single line, in the shape of a circle. It’s coloured yellow to represent a traditional sundance, where First Nations and Métis peoples gather to celebrate the renewal of life, good growing seasons, a safe community and good health.

The black bear represents authority, good medicine, courage and strength. They’re often featured as guardians, teachers, leaders and healers in origin stories, myths and legends. The bear reminds people to protect their ways of life and restore balance in communities.

Team

Garry Schenher | Deputy Director

Garry co-led establishing the SIIFC and has worked in Indigenous economic development for more than 20 years. His previous work in financial services includes strategic planning and business analysis as well as retail bank management.

Garry holds Bachelor of Commerce (Finance) and Master of Business Administration (International Business) degrees from the University of Saskatchewan. His experience includes work/study programs in Japan and Malaysia.

Garry served 9 years on the Regina Public School Board and has volunteered extensively in the community. He lives in Regina with his wife and two adult children.

In 2019, Matt joined the Indigenous Economic Development Branch which supports the growth of First Nation and Métis communities and businesses in the province by helping facilitate business development, partnership and business network creation, investment attraction, and knowledge building.

Matt has a Bachelors Degree in Public Affairs and Policy Management with a specialization in Development Studies from Carleton University in Ottawa and a Masters Degree in Global Governance and Diplomacy from the University of Oxford. He enjoys traveling and has been fortunate enough to visit about 70 countries on six continents. Matt lives in Regina with his wife and two young children.
